Catherine Wallace is a Brisbane-based artist creating original oil paintings and surface pattern design inspired by everyday moments, quiet interiors, and the beauty of natural forms.
There's a quiet beauty in everyday objects — a slice of toast, a bowl of fruit, the last pour of coffee in the morning light. I paint these small moments because they hold more than they let on: warmth, texture, a little bit of magic in the ordinary.
I work in oils, watercolour, and surface pattern design. My still life paintings and nursery drawings tell stories — some quiet, some a little playful — often inspired by my own grandchildren and the small adventures of everyday life.
People tell me my work makes them hungry (in the best way), that they love starting their day with their coffee admiring a piece on the wall, that they thought a painting was a photo. That's the reaction I'm painting for — not perfection, but connection.
Along the way, my still life paintings have won the d'Arcy Doyle Award for Still Life and been featured on Space Invaders on Channel 9 — but the real reward is still that moment someone tells me a painting made them smile.
Alongside my paintings, I design surface patterns for fabric, wallpaper, and home decor, and I'm growing a licensing business built on the same painterly, hand-crafted quality — visible brushwork, real texture, and a warm storybook feel that sets each collection apart.
Based in Australia, working with collectors and collaborators internationally.
